The best way to get your body in shape after delivery is, of course, to exercise. Not only will exercise help you regain muscle tone and lose fat, but it's also an excellent way to combat stress. You should check with your health care professional as to when to resume exercise. Good general rules are never to exercise to the point of fatigue and to return to your prepregnancy activity levels gradually. Usually, low-impact aerobic exercises several times a week are a good way to start. High-impact aerobic sports, such as tennis, should be resumed gradually. If you have a hard time getting outdoors to exercise, consider one of the many exercise videos on the market. If you are concerned about the effects of vigorous exercise on breastfeeding women, be reassured. Research indicates that vigorous exercise does not interfere with lactation in any way. What's more, lactating women who exercise tend to be more fit and have a lower percentage of body fat. Once again, please consult your health care professional before beginning or resuming any exercise program.
